About Mikron Theatre Company

Mikron is the little touring theatre company with the reputation for tackling large scale subjects and turning history into vivid and dramatic entertainment.

We tour on our narrowboat, Tyseley, in the summer and by road in the autumn, to every conceivable type of venue, reaching audiences that other companies cannot.

What’s In A Name?

Mikron Theatre Company began when Mike Lucas, Sarah Cameron and Ron Legge took a show to the Edinburgh festival in 1963. Mikron was named after MIKe, RON and Sarah CameRON. Mikron is the Greek word for small.

Life as part of the Mikron team is a lot of fun and a lot of hard work.

We estimate that in our 40 years of touring we have:

  • Written 45 original shows
  • Composed and written 270 songs
  • Issued over 200 actor musician contracts
  • Spent 20,000 hours boating on the inland waterways
  • Covered 400,000 road miles
  • Presented 4,000 shows.
  • Performed to 280,000 people

We have performed in pubs, village halls, community centres and at festivals and rallies. We’ve even performed inside a tunnel, in the bows of a docked boat and in people’s own front rooms.

Small we were and small, in the good sense of the word, we still are.

See Mikron’s history page for more details.
